Playing with Widgetsmith’s new Music Collections widget and coupled it with the Apple Music player giving you those “coverflow” vibes of early iTunes. #widgetsmith awesome job @_Davidsmith@mastodon.social on this update, the work you put in to it shows how much you care about your users.

How to delete a certificate restored from an iPhone or iPad backup when switching MDM?
I'm working on migrating my office from JAMF Now to Mosyle since Mosyle provides so much more for a cheaper price tag. Ive never used Mosyle before so I thought I'd start by asking their support after poking around in their new to me interface.
Submitting a ticket I submitted a ticket to Mosyle Support asking how to do a migration:
Can you point me in the right direction on how to go about migrating from Jamf Now to Mosyle?

Organizing all of JAMF's Casper Suite on the OS X dock
My company recently purchased and implemented JAMF Software’s Casper Suite and I ended up putting all of the apps from the suite in the Applications folder. In a previous post I wrote how you can group items using OS X tags and then later do some saved searches to wrangle them all together.
Tagging I tagged each of the apps in the Casper Suite with the "casper" tag. Just open the Get Info sheet for that application, click the white box and type in the tag and press enter.

Make it harder to Command Q an app on OS X
We’ve all done it, we’re knee-deep in some research or we’re writing an extra long email or throwing items into a shopping cart on some website and all of a sudden you press ⌘ Q (Command Q) and there goes all that hard work you have been working on, especially if you neglected to save and the app doesn’t have autosave.
So what's the solution? The one solution I’ve found is by using a free app called Karabiner that has a custom shortcut titled “Press Command+Q twice to Quit Application”.

Setting up Xibo using Vagrant on OS X
Vagrant is a powerful tool for spinning up a dev or test environment quickly and easily. If you have no clue what you are doing like I do currently you may run into trouble.
Why am I using vagrant? Well, I didn’t WANT to use vagrant but I wanted to try Xibo the open source digital signage project to see if I can use it at work for a project we’re working on.

Working with Tags in OS X
Yesterday I wrote about how to use tags to group applications and how to use Alfred to search for them. This post will be how to work with Tags in OS X and ways to work with them from both the GUI and the Command Line.
How to add tags to files The easiest way to add tags to your files is by selecting the file, pressing ⌘ and i to open the Get Info window for that file.

What was that app's name again?
I suck at names, I know this and I deal with it. My issue with names isn’t just for people, apparently I suck at remembering an app’s name too. “What was that again? Remote something? Screen? Microsoft Remote something..”
When you’re in the heat of the moment and you are looking for that app so you can remote desktop to some Windows or Mac I just wanna find it and be done with it.

Building a better photo archive without iPhoto
I have about 20 years worth of photos in jpg format and videos in all sorts of formats. My goal is to process and organize them. I have roughly a terabyte of images lying around (with about 500gb or so of little video clips too). Along with about 20 DVDs of archived images that I’ve “backed up” to this volatile media. I’d love to have them all live my NAS and be accessible when and where ever I am.

How to keep your Mac awake during presentations - Caffeine
One of the most useful apps I have on my Mac barely has an interface to interact with yet stops me from breaking my flow when presenting at work. This app’s name is Caffeine and it stops my MacBook dimming, sleeping or starting the screen saver with a simple click.
So how does it work? Caffeine is a tiny program that puts an icon in the menu bar of your Mac that looks like an empty coffee cup.

Setup a custom Web Search with Alfred
I work at a church and I’m constantly looking up bible verses on my Macs (and iOS devices too). On the Mac I’ve been using this tool called Alfred which is a Spotlight replacement tool for searching your mac. But it does more… so much more than that. You see, Alfred is also a workflow system and has custom Web Search capabilities. Today I’m going to show you how you can add any website search to Alfred.

How to switch the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight to Alfred
My friend Brandon Dove did a bad thing last night he showed me something awesome, you see at my local WordPress meetup he reintroduced me to Alfred and after watching his set of workflows I’m hooked… again. I’ve jumped around between LaunchBar, the new Spotlight and Alfred over the years (I even used Quicksilver when that was a big thing). In a later post I’ll circle back around to some of the cool workflow things that Brandon is using and how I’m incorporating it into my daily computer life.

CLI - Copy last command to clipboard - OS X
I spend a decent amount of time in the command line and I’m always looking for better ways to do simple tasks. One of these tasks is working with the command history.
The command history will show you the last 500 commands you have executed. In it’s output it will prefix the command with a number at first this number isn’t very useful but with a few commands you can really leverage it to your advantage.

Gold new iPhone: is Apple leaning more Goldfinger or Goldmember?
If Apple and Tim Cook really are to milk another year out of the same old iPhone hardware motif they’ve been using since April 2010, they’re going to need help. And that means Cook starring in a Goldmember sequel, so to speak, as the by-now-familiar iPhone 5S is set to come in a gold backed version in the name of keeping things stirred up. Goldmember was the Austin Powers sequel which looked and felt a lot like its predecessor.

iOS 7 beta 7 download: Apple collects iRadio tools
Apple sent email to streaming internet radio stations requesting that they submit cover art to be used in iTunes ahead of the release of iOS 7 beta 7 which is expected to include a more fully fleshed out implementation of iTunes Radio. It looks like that Apple will be featuring streaming music stations on iPhone, iPad most likely on iOS7 when it is released later this year. Apple stated below that the cover art they are requesting won’t be displayed currently, and this will be used in the future.

iOS 7 Beta 6 download arrives for iPad and iPhone before GM
Apple has released the iOS 7 beta 6 download for iPhone and iPad, it seems like beta 5 was just released and it weighs in significantly smaller than its predecessor. This version is most likely the final seed in which Apple will be seeding a GM (gold master) version sometime around September 5th based on years past with their release flow. The GM is typically the software that is released to the public which will happen in the month of September.

VLC app for iPhone returns to App Store after two years
After two years of being removed from the Apple iOS App Store VLC returns with even more features as you recall the Denis-Courmont of VLC posted the following on their blog when it was removed:
On January 7th (2011), Apple removed VLC media player from its application store for iDevices. Thus the incompatibility between the GNU General Public License and the AppStore terms of use is resolved – the hard way.

Health & Fitness Tracking - Smart choices for positive results!
Look, I’m new to this like you are. You use to do the sedentary lifestyle like a champ and now the only prize you have for it is some extra weight. Me too, I’m starting to call it the “Participation Badge for Life” because it seems like just doing nothing gets you exactly that, nothing. Now that I’m starting to get more motivated with this I want to give back that participation badge and work up to the bronze, silver and finally gold.

Apple vs Google vs Microsoft: living across three technology universes
There have always been a couple different technology camps that have been out there. Primarily it’s been Microsoft and Apple, but a third player is getting more and more involved and that’s Google. It’s interesting to me to see how these three different companies are either interacting with one another or not interacting with one another at all, and just the level of interaction that’s happening. Now mind you there are a few different ways of going about things.

Schedule your Mac to mute sound at night
Last night my email client was on and my MacBook Pro’s volume was set to full volume (I was rocking out during a coding session earlier in the day) and every time my email client Sparrow got a new email it would chime an alert. Typically I welcome this alert but no at midnight, 1:15, 2:22, 3:45, 4:55. So the 4:55am one did help me wake up this morning but that’s beside the point.

Things I like: MacBook Pro 15 inch
I’ve been a Mac user for a few years, my first one was the White iMac 17 inch which I recently retired. I started a new business and the old iMac just wasn’t cutting it any more. I started doing some research on MacBooks and found that the 15 inch gave me the most in screen real estate and wasn’t as bulky as the 17 inch that many of my friends and colleagues use.

Squeezing a little bit more out of my 2006 iMac
I have a 20" iMac 5,1 it’s the late 2006 model with 2.16ghz core 2 duo processor that I’ve upgraded and tweaked and fangled as much as I could to get my money’s worth out of it. Back in 2007 I bought the computer with the intention of switching all the computers in my house to apple. Since I’m cheap I opted for a refurbished iMac and waited for the plain cardboard box that it came in to arrive in the mail.

BC Jean at Hard Rock Cafe 4/18 - SocialCam Test
Tonight I went with my good friend Bill Palmer (@beatweek) to check out a singer / song writer BC Jean (@bcjean) at the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Blvd. We got there a bit early and had some fun playing an impromptu game of pong using the Faux-Microsoft-Surface-hung-on-a-wall that they use to show off all the music memorabilia on this interactive display. As I set out to blue screen the thing I ended up figuring out that you can fling the photos from one side of this 30" plus display to the other and bunch everything up on one side.

Favorite iPad 2 apps
Below are some of my current iPad 2 apps I'm using. Links to be added soon! Productivity & Utilities Evernote Great application for documenting notes which works great on the iPhone 4 camera. This doesnt work well with the iPad's lackluster camera(s) Notes Plus Excellent app for taking text and hand drawn notes. VNC VNC protocol based remote access application. This allows me to access computers and servers on my network from the iPad 2.

Return of the iPhone Jailbreak
When I got my first iPod Touch Jailbreaking was just started up. The device was new and shiny yet we wanted more… jailbreaking allowed the adventureious geek to disable the built in security of the device and “root” it allowing them to login via an ssh connection and access the shell. See, I live by the idea that there is always something more to do with a device or technology then what it was really intended for.
