Tips for optimizing live broadcasting from your Mac
When streaming audio or video out to the Internet be it a podcast, a Google Hangout or just talking to your mom over Facetime from your computer you want to have the highest quality you can get sent from your computer to the Internet. Aside from asking the bandwidth hogs in your family to stop streaming NetFlix and 4K YouTube videos while you are broadcasting online (my family knows when I go upstairs to record to only watch local content) I wanted to share some tips that I have for optimizing the broadcasting bandwidth potential from your computer.

Google Hangouts, Webcams and New Media Expo NMX
Today I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Deb Cole from the New Media Expo team about their efforts in using Google Hangout with their speakers and attendees. Google Hangouts are a quick, easy and free way to interact with your audience, and I love seeing brands like NMX using technology like this. During our quick discussing we talked about my favorite Logitech C910 Webcam and how it works with Google Hangout.

Create Google Hangouts quickly with these easy URLs
If you are like me you spend a lot of time in Google Hangouts either for your podcasts or for a quick video conversation with someone. Google doesn’t make it easy to generate a hangout and then provide you with a sharable URL to someone. Digging around online I found two URLs that I’ll keep bookmarked:
Standard Google Hangout URL http://hangouts.google.com/start
This will create a standard Google Hangout that you can invite your friends to.

Why I stream WordPress Meetups
I had this question asked of me a few times this past General OC WordPress Meetup, “Why do you live stream these events?” “Do you do every event that happens here?” “You should charge these guys when you stream these meetups”, “What other stuff have you recorded?”, “When did you start recording these and how did you learn to do it?”. So I thought I’d take a minute to answer each of these questions to the best of my ability.

Live Streaming of 10 Year Anniversary of WordPress at OCWP
Monday May 27th marked the 10 year anniversary of WordPress, and as you may have guessed OC WordPress took this as a sign that we needed to celebrate. Many people in the OCWP family combined forces and sourced out sponsors, helpers and random awesome people to throw a great event to give back to the community. I was on hand to provide live streaming of the event which I did using some pretty awesome tech.

Hanging out with Google
My favorite part of Google+ is Google Hangout, and I think after you finish reading this post you too will enjoy using it and finding new ways to add it to your workflow. Google+, sometimes read as Google Plus, is a social network that has many facets, but the one that sticks out the most is Hangout which allows you to have a video conference with 9 friends or colleagues.

Learn to be a media master by donating your time
Every other Monday I attend the local Orange County WordPress meet up (OCWP) and donate my time to help folks like me that suck at taking notes. How do I help them? I help them by recording video of the event for them and streaming it live out to YouTube. How does this help me? I get free experience working with video technology and I get to educate myself by doing.

Top 5 ways to promote your live stream like a Pro
Here is my top five list of ways to promote your live stream like a pro, these tactics have helped me, hopefully they will help you!
5. Promote the day of the event to remind people of your event Start posing on the social networks and let people know about your event, remember not everyone lives in your timezone so specify the time zone you are referencing. Some people like to quote tweets instead of retweeting, making you tweets short leaving room for the @name of the person quoting and allows them a bit of space for additional commentary.

Want to be amazing at recording live events? Here's the first steps
Start Small In a past life I worked as a Systems Administrator and one the best tools in an admins toolbox is the scripts they wrote to automate mundane tasks. When writing these scripts you start small trying to resolve a single issue then build another one to solve another. After a while you end up with quite a few scripts that do really boring or repetitive tasks easy. At some point you want to do two of three of these tasks and you’ll end up combining these smaller scripts to make a more complex one.
