Stepping outside of my existing workflow and trying new things
Like most people, you find what works for you and you typically stick with it, I'm looking to change that when it comes to software, hardware, and services that I pay for. I use a bunch of web development tools to get the various jobs and tasks that I do on a regular basis and I'm starting to see that some of these things I only use only because I know the people that make them or I've been using it for years.

Live streaming with an interactive audience is hard
Bridget Willard and I started WPblab as a way for her and I to answer people's questions about WordPress and to be able to share our knowledge with our viewers. We started this show on blab.im a new yet now sunsetted live video streaming website with some new features that we couldn't find elsewhere. It reminded me of the early days of WPwatercooler and our use of Google Hangouts On Air to stream our show to the masses.

History of online communication and why it all still sucks
For the last few years I’ve been thinking a bit about how I’ve communicated to people online. There is a lot of history here and I think looking at the history again may help with figuring out where we will end up in the future. I have a few gripes about our current forms of communication and the various silos made and looking back you can see that things really haven’t changed.

Finding and saving purchase receipts in email to Google Drive
It's been that time of year again when all of us needed to find and collect receipts of various purchases we made and reconcile them against our bank statements. For either tax purposes or just staying on top of your finances it's a good way to go.
At my day gig I run the IT department and I'm ultimately responsible for the collection of said receipts and submitting them to our department Administrative Assistant to organize and reconcile for me.

7 interesting apps for the Apple TV on launch day
Friday October 30th 2015 Apple released the new Apple TV with a plethora of apps to download. Like most people we’ve been combing through the App Store looking for interesting apps to use on the Apple TV. Below is our list of the most interesting apps that we’ve found.
SketchParty TV Display (link)
This game came out as one of the only multi screen games for the previous gen Apple TV when used with the iPad version of the game SketchParty TV you’d see play area on the TV screen and on the iPad you’d be instructed to draw something for the other people in the room to guess, much like Pictionary.

List most recent Exchange users using PowerShell
At work we’re migrating our exchange server’s users over to Google. As with more businesses we add new users to our exchange server throughout the year; be it interns, paid and volunteers. I wanted to get a list of new users we have added to our exchange server in the last 90 days so I did some google searching and found this post Exchange Quick Audit: mailboxes created in last 7 days that worked for my needs.

What is the longest TLD you can get for a domain name?
So today I was thinking, what is the longest TLD or “top level domain” you can get for your new domain name?
Doing a bit of googling I found a list of TLDs that iana.org puts out, threw together some scripting and magically you have a list sorted by length. Load up terminal (if your are on a Mac) and run the following command

Meerkat or “what just happened live 30 seconds ago”
The latest thing to come out of SXSW is Meerkat, which is a video streaming service that pushes out video in vertical video mode and has a weird web interface. I’m 100% opposed to anything vertical video (I applauded apps like YouTubes for forcing the user to record in horizontal mode instead of vertical).
The thing that makes Meerkat attractive to its target demographic is the fact you can see someone doing something live if you catch it I time.

Google Rolls Out YouTube Kids app for iOS & Android
Little kids want to emulate their parents or even their older siblings watching and laughing at YouTube videos but savvy parents with young kids that not all videos are created equal. For a while parents have been building custom playlists and curating videos for their kids to watch. There are even some YouTube channels that tout that they have kid friendly content or have curated playlists.
The folks at Google have noticed this and built their own app for iOS and Android.

iPhone 7 release date Sept 2015, iPhone 6S in April w/ Apple Watch
Will Apple hold a release date for the iPhone 6S this year, or will it jump straight to the iPhone 7 in 2015? How about both. We’re continuing to hear from our supply chain source that Cupertino is seriously considering accelerating the pace of iPhone releases in order to align with the iWatch, which is being targeted for April 2015, such that the iPhone 6S will debut alongside it – and that the iPhone 7 could in turn arrive before next year is finished as well.

How to switch the keyboard shortcut for Spotlight to Alfred
My friend Brandon Dove did a bad thing last night he showed me something awesome, you see at my local WordPress meetup he reintroduced me to Alfred and after watching his set of workflows I’m hooked… again. I’ve jumped around between LaunchBar, the new Spotlight and Alfred over the years (I even used Quicksilver when that was a big thing). In a later post I’ll circle back around to some of the cool workflow things that Brandon is using and how I’m incorporating it into my daily computer life.

Migrating printers between Macs
I have a Mac Pro that I’m retiring as our Mac server at work and have replaced it with a Mac Mini Server. One of it’s jobs being handed over is dealing with our printing and AirPrint on the network (we use Printopia for that). I’ve been looking for a solution to migrating all of the printers and their configs over to the new machine (since this migration this didn’t happen during the use of migration assistant).

UFC Ultimate Fighter 2014 new episode tonight: time TV channel preview
UFC returns tonight with a new episode of The Ultimate Fighter 2014 titled Get That Money. This time around the mixed martial arts reality television show sends its fighters off to Harley-Davidson Boot Camp to see how they fare. There will also be some preliminary fighting action on tonight’s episode, and Dana White will reveal the upcoming semifinal matchups going forward. UFC fans may still be trying to figure out which TV channel The Ultimate Fighter 19 is on this season, as it’s no longer on Spike TV.

WWE Monday Night Raw wrestling tonight TV time free live stream online
WWE Monday Night Raw returns tonight with all new live wresting matches, along with yet-to-be-settled betrayals and alliances. Shield imploded in such a dramatic manner that it might as well have been Agents of Shield, with Seth Rollins stabbing Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns in the back in a shocking twist. How will things play out between the former allies? They’ll have three-plus hours of live airtime to sort through it tonight on WWE Raw, with the action airing on live TV and live online.

WBC Boxing tonight: Martinez vs Cotto fight free live stream, TV, time
Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto face off tonight in a WBC boxing match, with Martinez’s middleweight title on the line. Cotto is returning to the ring after a slew of injuries which kept him out of action, and has a career record of 38-4-0 with 31 knockouts. “Maravilla” Martinez has a career record of 51-2-2 with 28 knockouts. The match has a late night start time and will take place is Madison Square Garden in New York City, and is available on pay per view TV as well as a free live stream for those who prefer to watch online.

UFC Fight Night tonight Henderson vs Khabilov time TV free live stream
Tonight’s UFC Fight Night action is headlined by a Benson Henderson vs Rustam Khabilov matchup in a mixed martial arts lightweight bout taking place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Benson “Smooth” Henderson is ranked number two, while Rustam “Tiger” Khabilov is ranked number eleven heading into the fight. 5 Facebook privacy changes by the privacy dinosaur
Facebook’s recent privacy changes are designed to make your account easier to manage with the assistance of the privacy dinosaur.
Facebook hasn’t done much in the form of changes to its logos or branding, they also don’t have very many cute little characters to work into their user interfaces. I’d imagine that if there was one place in their user experience that a cute little blue dinosaur could help it would be in their typically over complicated privacy settings.

Controversy over Disneyland/World ticket pass price increases in 2014
Disney is still receiving blowback for its decision to raise prices on tickets and plans for Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and its other U.S. theme parks. The news was quietly slipped out late Saturday night without advance warning, in the apparent hope that no one would notice. But instead, the blowback has been immediate. “Walt Disney would be appalled by what it costs to take a family to his park,” stated on disgruntled Disney fan.

Apple CarPlay iOS 7.1: Pioneer aftermarket car kit for iPhone iPad
Pioneer NEX car infotainment systems with CarPlay technology are set to be coming in the next few weeks, the company has been offering advance hands-on previews of how Apple’s in-car system will work.
Devices we’re released to a few media outlets CNBC, Macworld, and Digital Trends this week for hands on demos. CarPlay support will come to its refreshed NEX lineup in “a few weeks”. Support will be coming to existing NEX infotainment systems from Pioneer in the form of a software update which many people are rejoicing about.

Today is Star Wars Day, the day where all of your social media feeds are filled with Star Wars memes and mashups. It’s an unofficial holiday that plays off the pun “May the fourth be with you” even though the movie premiered May 25th 1977. May the twenty Sith? Either way it’s a fun day to share those photos about if Han shot first, Ackbar letting us know it’s a trap and who doesn’t love breakdancing Storm Troopers.

Rio 2 movie review: Blu and familiar characters return for sequel
If the first movie Rio got you thinking about visiting Rio Janeiro so you can have first hand experience of Carnival and see the massive statue Christ the Redeemer. Rio 2 may want you to check out the Amazon with its vast rainforest, waterfalls and bugs… lots and lots of bugs.
Rio 2, which begins its story in Rio somewhat where we left off in the previous movie has its character find their way to the Amazon rain forest.
