Arizona Trip
The family is going on a trip to Arizona. “Arizona in the summer?” Yup. should be a blazing (and LONG) trip.
My “techie” plan is to GPS the entire trip and take pictures with my digital camera, then use GPPhotoLinker when I get home to geoencode the pictures of the trip and post them to flickr. Last vacation this worked well on our trip to Mammoth [photos] – [map].
The Non techie plan is to have a safe and fun trip, see all there is to see in Northern AZ and not die from heat stroke.
So here’s the loosely based literary:
Day 1 (Saturday)
- Drive from Whittier and meet Mom and Bill in Bullhead City, spend the night. (269 miles – 4.5 hrs)
Day 2 (Sunday)
- Wake up and drive to Oatman, see the town infested with donkeys. (25 miles – 40 mins)
- Drive to Kingman and take a picture in front of “Tucker Street” sign for TuckerTales (yeah I’m a dork). (28 miles 1hr)
- Drive to their house in Seligman and spend the night. (79 miles – 1.25 hrs)
Day 3 (Monday)
- Wake up and go to South Rim Grand Canyon take the bus to all the spots when we arrive there. (110 miles – 2hrs)
- Check out the Grand Canyon Caverns on the way back to Moms. (25 miles)
Day 4 (Tuesday)
- Go to Flagstaff and visit the Northern Arizona Museum (84 miles)
- Drive to the Meteor Crater past Flagstaff. (40 miles)
- Drive back to Flagstaff and check out the Lowell Observatory. (40 miles)
- Drive back to Seligman. (84 miles)
Day 5 (Wednesday)
- Wake up and drive to Sedona and play at the Side Rock State Park. (The place looks fun, found some great pictures of it on Flickr that sold us on going. (102 miles)
- Check out Sedona
- Drive to Seligman. (102 miles)
Day 6 (Thursday)
- Stay local and just chill (er, whatever you do there in Seligman) and hang out with Mom and Bill.
Day 7 (Friday)
- Pack and leave to Mesa, AZ (233 miles)
- Hang out with Dan and CJ and their family
- Sleep
Day 8 (Saturday)
- Say good byes and drive back home. (376 miles)
I’m estimating about 1,706 miles total for this trip. Here’s an insane map of the entire trip
