DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online) Preview

They launched DDO Preview last night. I grabbed the updates to the client and proceeded to log in. At first the game was sluggish, (I downloaded the Standard version and not the High Quality one) I run a 3ghz P4 with Hyperthreading as well as 1gb of ram and a GeForce FX 5500 with 128mb of ram. Most of the slowdown occured because of the game setting itsself to high of quality. I dropped everything down around medium. Second was that the resolution was set to max which no way my lil budget videocard is gunna be able to handle. The frame rate was at like 5fps or something. REALLY you cant play that way, the realestate is there, but its like playing baseball in a strobe light.  I dropped it down to 1024×768 and it did quite and it was night and day.

Back to the gameplay now all that is sorted. You start out making your character like you would in D&D, you pick your race and sex then class and they roll out your chars stats. After that you name the char and the game starts. Everyone is in n00b town and you have to do a quest and then head out and learn some skills by doing some basic tasks. After than you head to the boat and they send you to n00bville part 2. Here you hit the bar and do some tasks for the barkeep then complete a dungeon quest and head outside. At first I rolled a Elf Bard, but he got his ass handed to him. I skipped the complexities of him and rerolled a WarForged Pally. The Pally was way easy, I killed everyone in 1 or 2 blows (I died with the Bard say, 10 times before realizing you can BLOCK blows) The Warforge Pally is way strong. I can take down most foes with no problem and I completes the basic quest in less time than the Bard. Tonight I’ll mess with it more and post a part 2 of this.
