LA Podcasters Spring Meetup
Last night I attended the LA Podcasters Spring Meetup held at Barbara’s at the Brewery near downtown LA. The brewery is an art colony that use to be the Pabst beer brewery many years ago. It has since been converted to accommodate lofts for use by many artisans. Lance has a recording studio here which is were I met him since I was about an hour early for the gathering. Every time I’m in his recording studio I feel like i need to sit down and record something. The environment that he’s created in there is quite magical. I can see why he sounds so calm and collected when he does his recording for his shows. If you are in the LA area and are looking for a place to record I think he does rent out the space from time to time. Hit me up and I can point you in the right direction.
6:00 rolled around and we made our way over to Barbara’s to reserve some seats for our guests. Barbara’s has 5 main areas to it: the bar, the lounge area, U shaped seating near the windows and 2 patio areas on either side of it which also act as entrance. We were seated in the lounge area with a few tables and chairs gathered around for people to sit at. Lance and I got to talking about all sorts of different things in the podcasting and new media “space” he also got to play around with his HD camera a bit too.
Around 7ish people started to make their way into the place and some of them I’ve met before at previous engagements. Steve from Podrunner and I got to talking about advertising in new media and a few other key topics. He spoke at the Podcamp SoCal event last fall and I told him I recently got a chance to finally listen to the recording that we captured during the event. One of the topics that came up was weather we were going to do another Podcamp. Rest assured after this convo I think something is going to come out of this. Sunny from Veoh Networks and her show Viral was there to talk about the future of LA Podcasters and whats in store for us. Nothing is official just yet but things are looking to be quite interesting. We also talked about my frustrations with extracting the video from Ustream.tv in order to encode it to an mp4 file to be used in a podcast. (I’ll be doing a write up on this over at EverythingTech.tv sometime this week). I also got to talk to a new friend of mine that I met for the first time at the 07 PNME, Chris Moody, he does a Podio books podcast. Many other people were there at the event but I didn’t get to make my rounds to see them all.
