My last day before Google Glass: tomorrow I become a Glasshole

Today is my last day without Google Glass. It was a very busy day for me, a day that I wished I already had my Glass. Earlier this year I as accepted in the #ifihadglass Twitter and Google+ contest and recently paid for my Google Glass. Today is the day I’ll be picking them up in Venice Beach. Today got me thinking about some ways that I could have used Glass to capture and share the various events I was involved in today. I had “Donuts with Dad” with my daughter. She’s lived through me taking tens of thousands of pictures of her since she was born and today was yet another day of pictures, this time around she wasn’t really in the mood for me to take her picture. I ended up with many pics of the palm of her hand while we were eating donuts with all the other dads.

Later we went and played tetherball a game that requires both hands to play, I took some pics but almost had my iPhone hit by the ball trying to take some fun pics of her playing. At work I was climbing a ladder and needed to take a pic of some networking equipment mid way on the ladder, I had a hard time taking that picture to use for research to replace the equipment. While at the store to purchase that replacement device I realized the picture I took was a bit shaky due to me having to use just 1 hand on the ladder to take the picture. Without the model number, I had to do some guessing to get the correct item I needed. Navigating to and from the store could have been easier with Google Glass. I’m not entirely sure about driving with them yet, but until I get to wear them I’ll need to try it before knocking it.

At my son’s football game a few funny things happened in the stands that I would have loved to show him during his game, explaining them to him after the fact wasn’t as funny, but if I was able to take a picture or video of it sharing that experience with him would have been cool. I’m interested in seeing how much or how little Google Glass changes things for me. During the last week of knowing I was going to be getting it, I started to find more and more scenarios where Glass may have helped out, even just for novelty sake. Expect many posts from me and my adventures with Glass.
