New Google Glass XE5 software update adds Google+ support

Google has pushed out its latest Google Glass software update, version XE5, last night and it includes Google+ integration. Phandroid has posted this list on their site. Being able to answer incoming hangout notifications and commenting on posts on G+ seem to be some of the big items in this update. Glass itself runs on Android based software, but is compatible with both Android and iPhone devices. The latest software update adds new functionality and counters some outside criticism that the device thus far is more flash than feature laden. Google+ is the company’s in-house social network.

• Change to sync policy: require power + WiFi for background uploads
• Crash reporting
• Incoming Google+ notifications (direct shares, comments, +mentions), including ability to comment and +1
• Incoming Hangout notifications
• Transcription of queries & messages is now wicked-fast
• Long-press to search from anywhere in the UI (no longer just from off)

• International number dialing + SMS
• Hop animation on disallowed swipes in the UI
• New On-Head Detection calibration flow
• Show device Serial Number on Device Info card
• More reliable estimation of battery charge remaining
• New recipient-list mosaic
